Carla Cunha is a PhD student at the Laboratory of Photochemistry of the Department of Chemistry, University of Coimbra, under the supervision of Professor João Sérgio Seixas de Melo. Her research focuses mainly on the synthesis and photophysical characterization of new organic compounds and polymers or oligomers with different chromophoric core structures will be performed in order to obtain systems with improved luminescence efficiency for future practical applications such as in OLEDs or in chemical sensors. She is the author and co-author of 10 manuscripts. Her main areas of interest focus on Photochemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Computational Chemistry.

Mariana has a degree in Medicinal Chemistry from the FCTUC, and a MSc in Chemistry, specialization in Advanced and Industrial Chemistry – Development and Strategy, by the same institution.

In the beginning of 2021, she started a collaboration with Prof. Dr. João Sérgio Seixas de Melo and with Ana Clara B. Rodrigues, through the HyLight Project, to develop the synthesis of AIEgens and their photophysical characterization.

She is currently a PhD student in Chemistry, with specialization in Organic Chemistry, for Development of Light-emitting molecules with AIE: from a sustainable synthesis to a comprehensive photophysical characterization.

Simone Ferreira is a PhD student (Chemistry, Photochemistry branch) at the CQC/ISM, within the topic “Chemistry behind postage stamps”, and a senior technical officer of the Department of Chemistry.

She has been a team member in several research projects, mainly in the area of Photochemistry.

Most of her career was conducted in the industry, where she specialized in several analytical techniques, being at the same time Quality and Technical Manager of laboratories accredited by ISO/IEC 17025.

She is author and co-author of four publications in peer -reviewed journals and one book chapter. She presented several poster communications.

Daniela has a background in Biomedical Engineering, having joined the Photochemistry group in September 2015.

Her PhD work focuses on the study of the photochemistry and photophysics of indirubin to understand its mechanisms of biological action.

Her scientific interests include photobiology and biomodulation, particularly photobiomodulation. She is currently in the writing phase of her PhD and works as a researcher in Dr. Angelika Rueck’s group at the University of Ulm, specializing in BioPhotonics and Metabolic FLIM.

Paulo holds a Master’s degree in Chemistry and joined the Photochemistry group in September 2021.

He is currently pursuing his PhD in photochemistry, and his research is titled “Synthesis, photophysics, and photovoltaic applications of new Azaacenes and BAI derivatives as Singlet Fission Materials.”

His scientific interests encompass excited state kinetic systems and polymeric synthesis.
